Too Peopley Out There

When the world is a bit too newsy, and my days too peopley, I head to the mountains and practice some Stoicism, reminding myself: I can’t control external events, only my response to them.

Following the dogs, weaving through rock cliffs and trees.

My best response? Go outside and absorb the peace and calm of nature by going for a morning run in the forest, breathing the crisp mountain air, soaking up the sun’s warming rays, letting the colors of autumn’s changing leaves tickle my eyes, laughing at the antics of my happy dogs.

Brilliant red huckleberry leaves.

It’s what the Japanese call Shinrin-yoku, or forest bathing. Healing through nature.

Breathe….

Works every time. At least, for a little while.
